Skylanders SuperChargers continues the toys-to-life adventure series in which physical figurines placed on the Portal of Power become playable characters in the game. This installment introduces a major new element: vehicles. Land, sea, and sky vehicles can be placed on the redesigned Portal alongside Skylanders, allowing players to drive, sail, or fly through levels while exploring, fighting, and racing.
The story centers on Kaos unleashing his most powerful weapon yet—the Doomstation of Ultimate Doomstruction—threatening all of Skylands. A new elite team of heroes known as the SuperChargers is assembled to stop him. These SuperCharger characters gain special abilities and can “SuperCharge” their signature vehicles for enhanced performance and unique mods when paired correctly. Any compatible Skylander from previous games can pilot the vehicles, though only SuperChargers unlock the full upgrade potential.
Gameplay mixes classic third-person action-platforming with vehicle sections that involve combat, puzzle-solving, and exploration across three environments. A dedicated racing mode lets players compete in land, sea, and air races. Vehicles can be customized with modifications and upgradeable weapons using in-game currency. The Wii U version features exclusive Nintendo characters Turbo Charge Donkey Kong (with the Barrel Blaster land vehicle) and Hammer Slam Bowser (with the Clown Cruiser air vehicle). These figures also work as amiibo in compatible Nintendo games via a switch on the base. The game supports off-TV play on the Wii U GamePad and includes local two-player co-op as well as online multiplayer options, particularly in racing.

Physical vehicle toys are placed on the Portal of Power just like Skylander figures. They allow players to drive, sail, or fly in designated sections of levels and in racing modes.
